Allah-Las – Self Titled debut

A lot of the bands on my “favorite sounds of 2012 list” weren’t given the proper attention and featured due to a hectic year but I couldn’t overlook this one.

The California based four piece Allah-Las met back in 2008 while working at an LA record store. It was three years later that they found the appropriate basement to channel the ’60s garage/pop vibes to record their first couple singles “Catamaran” / “Long Journey”, and it wasn’t until september 18th of last year that they unveiled their self titled debut via Innovative Leisure.

Their music is a certain mix of lo-fi reverb, jangled surf/rock and ’60s nostalgia  blended nicely with the right touch of retro affectation.

The band describes their music as “Old, weird Los Angeles: strains of true surfing music, American harmonies, sunset strip backbeat, desert ramble filtered through goldstar sessioneers; That pre-fuzz pedal ‘electrified folk’ music and pop groups hitting that California sound with the tambourine on just the right beat.”

Sample a few tracks and videos and then go ahead and buy the record here. Also, they’ll be making their way to the east coast in April in support of The Black Angels, tour dates below.

Allah-Las – Long Journey

Allah-Las – Busman’s Holiday
