Decibelcast Vol. 12 – “Playcation”

It’s been a kind of a long winter (well they always seem that way though, right?) and it’s time to move on to the next couple of seasons, like spring and summer.  My way of doing this is to travel to a tropical island so I can burn off my pale white skin in one quick trip.  I know that you’re getting jealous of my amazing vacation, but don’t be so mad!  I’ve made a mix to help you get into the mood of the next season.  So even if you dont get to go to a white sandy beach, hopefully you can close your eyes, put on these relaxing jams, and pretend you’re there.  Don’t take a vacation, just hit play on this mix and take a Playcation. (Not to be confused with Playstation™)

So as we head into the depth of winter (in some parts of the world anyway) use this little mix along with your mittens to stay warm against the elements.

Introducing “DecibelCast”

So yeah, as the name suggests, this is about 6 weeks late, but it was necessary to test out the soundcloud account (and it should work equally well for a sunny winter’s day). This is the first installment of what will hopefully be regular mixes from your homies here at DECIBELity. Brought to you by Jay Autom@tticus, it veers towards the sun-burnt, lo fi, psychedelic side of things — some older stuff, some newer stuff, and some favorites that we’ve posted this year.

Blackbird Blackbird – “Boracay Planet”

San Francisco based electro/pop artist Mikey S. Maramay, AKA Blackbird Blackbird, makes chilled, beat-driven jams that verge on the supernal. If you’ve been with us for a while then you may have sampled his sounds back in April when we first mentioned him, link to that post here. The first single off his forthcoming EP, Boracay Planet, is yet another gorgeous gem driven by meditative guitar loops, ethereal vocal samples and lush electronic layering. There’s no official release date as of yet, check back for updates.

Since early 2010 this guy has released an impressive multitude of quality music all of which can be found on his bandcamp page either as a free download or on a ‘name your own price’ basis. He has also proven himself as a master remix artist. Check out a few of those below along with the new single, some of my favorite tracks and a couple videos. Oh, and he put together a nice little mixtape for prefix magazine to accompany the new single. download, track-list and artwork below.
