Juan Wauters – “North American Poetry’

Queens based, Juan Wauters (cofounder of The Beets) has prepped his debut solo full length, North American Poetry, for a Feb. 4th release via Captured Tracks. Juan released a 7″ March 5th called Sanity featuring Sanity on the A side and Nena on the flip. With only 500 pressed through Wayward records, they sold out quick but you can stream and download via his bandcamp.

With N.A.P.  Wauters ventures further into the folk realm, albeit garage/folk? (not sure what that means) grunge/folk? anyway, the first single, Water, leaves him stripped down to an acoustic guitar with his simplistic yet clever lyrics carried by a glum, somewhat apathetic tenor that comes off cheerful. Think Daniel Johnston with guitar lessons.

Meanwhile The Beets  released a 7″ October 15th featuring two covers of Howard Sterns 6th grade psychedelic band entitled The Beets Play Silver Nickels and Golden Dimes. Grab it at Hardly Art and stream a track below.

Blouse – “Imperium”

Portland based dream/pop trio Blouse are readying their sophomore LP Imperium for a September 17th release via Captured Tracks. They’ve traded in synth for guitar without shifting much of the bands original melancholic/shoegaze aesthetic.

Beach Fossils – Clash The Truth

Brooklyn’s lo-fi surf rockers, Beach Fossils are prepping their sophomore effort, Clash The Truth for a Feb. 19th release on Captured Tracks. They’ve taken their sound and shifted towards a more 80’s post punk via shoegaze vibe. The result is more layers, more production, more pop. Sample a few tracks below and pre order here.

Craft Spells – “Your Tomb” Video

A new video directed by Aaron Beckum for the track Your Tomb from Craft Spells wonderful debut LP, Idle Labor, was just released. The video stars Nina Sbardellati with members of the band as detectives following a twisted love affair.

Craft Spells’ music is some of the best stuff to come out of the recent lo-fi bedroom pop wave. Lush, reverb filled vocals layered over vibed out ’80s-esque synth heavy jams sculpted into gorgeous sonic gems. Idle Labor dropped back on March 29th via Captured Tracks. Grab a few standouts and watch the new video along with an older one for After The Moment below.

The first single to surface is Sometime and features familiar, hazy guitar riffs and reverb heavy vocals.

Beach Fossils – “What A Pleasure” EP

Originally from North Carolina, frontman Dustin Payseur of Beach Fossils wrote and recorded all the songs from the 2009 self-titled debut LP himself from his Brooklyn apartment. Now a full band the latest effort is the What A Pleasure EP released March 29 on Captured Tracks and is marked with their typical hazy, guitar driven rhythms and hushed, reverb-heavy vocals.

This time around Dustin shares the weight of the writing process with bassist John Peña, and collaborates with Wild Nothing’s Jack Tatum.
