DecibelCast Vol. 18 “All Your Bass Are Belong to Us”

dB18

DecibelCast 18 was originally slated to be a compilation of bits from the nascent “alt./future” R&B scene (a particularly fertile area in 2013), but somewhere along the line, that idea was dropped. The revised version still has its share of divas and more than a few love ballads to boot, but there’s also lots of different odds and ends, mashups, remixes, bootlegs and the like. As the name (which is an obvious play on an old internet meme) might suggest the new unifying theme is the bass line. So be certain you listen to this one with a sub.

Clams Casino offers high quality version of “Instrumentals Mixtape”

It’s been a hell of a year for New Jersey’s Mike Volpe aka Clams Casino. In addition to releasing his excellent Rainforest EP on Triangle Records (prolly the hottest record label of 2011), he’s lent his unique production style — a kind of darkly militant take on chillwave — to a bizarre assortment of noteworthy artists, everyone from Lil B to to ASAP Rocky to The Weeknd.

He also released gratis a dope collection of beats in the form of Instrumentals Mixtape earlier this year. As a holiday treat, he’s now hooking it up with high quality 320kbps mp3s!

So if you missed it earlier, here’s your chance to grab some defining moments of 2011.

The Weeknd – “Echoes of Silence”

Oh shit! It’s the release of the third and final chapter in a trilogy of ridiculously stylish, free “mixtapes,” graciously provided by the dopest R&B outfit around: Canada’s The Weeknd. If you don’t know about The Weeknd yet, you obviously have a life and/or are not trolling the Internet 24/7 looking for music, ’cause this guy’s been all over 2011 (you can check the first two releases here and here).

For those who are familiar, I prolly don’t even have to finish this post as you are likely already clicking the link to download.  In case you do possess some restraint in these matters, I’ll just say: this one definitely delivers, delving still further into the sleazy, tripped-out ambiance characterizing its predecessors. The production is tight and banging as always. Marked by squalid electronics and tinges of blues, it includes, among other things, a cover of Bad-era Michael Jackson as well as some guest production by rising star Clams Casino.

For those who ain’t acquainted with the sound, here’s your chance to clock some of the most forward-thinking “urban” music in existence.
