Peaking Lights – Record Deals, Mix-tapes, Remixes

One of our favorite acts, Peaking Lights, has just recently signed to Mexican Summer and Domino’s offshoot Weird World Records. They have announced a new full length due in 2012 to followup their glorious sophomore album 963 which dropped at the beginning of this year on Not Not Fun and will be treated to a European release on Nov. 21st via the new labels.

Peaking Lights is the husband and wife dub/pop duo Aaron Coyes and Indra Dunis. They submerge their form of synth covered jams into melodic, minimal house wanderings and resurface in a landscape of psychedelic dub infused rhythms. They seamlessly and beautifully blend and merge genres that on paper seem preposterous if not pretentious. Reggae, disco, dub (not dub-step), psych/pop, hints of house and trance, krautrock, it’s all here wrapped nicely into track after track of exceptional sonic bliss. To celebrate the signings and perhaps to help exemplify the far reaches of their influence Peaking Lights have thrown together an hour plus mix-tape full of psyched out reggae fusion, world beats, and brit/funk just to mention a few of the scattered genres. It’s appropriately entitled MIXXED-UP, stream below.

The forthcoming album is to be produced and engineered by Al Carlson (Yeasayer, Ford & Lopatin, etc.) Here’s a few words from Aaron on the new album, “The songs that we’ve been working on have been very groovy and psyched out, foraging deeper into new rhythm techniques and territories, smoother bass lines w/ a heavy dub influence looking outward to private press boogie records, african & latin rhythms and tranced vibrations of the most killer all nite party you’ve never been to. less cocaine, more weed, a sustained orgasm, maintaining 100% creative control, late hot summer nights, come down chill room and low lit zone, lazer light show, smoke machines, being naked and watching the sun rise.”

Besides working on the new record they’ve thrown up a couple random, glorious remixes. Grab those along with a few standouts from 936 and check out the video for All The Sun That Shines below.

Real Estate – “It’s Real”

Recently signed to Domino Records, the Brooklyn based beach/pop trio, Real Estate, have announced their sophomore LP, Days, to be released in October and are giving away the first official single It’s Real.

Real Estate – It’s Real

Real Estate – Out Of Tune (released last year as a single looks like it might show up on the new full length)

Real Estate – Beach Comber ( off the 2009 self-titled debut)

Twin Sister – New Album “In Heaven”

Bad Street is our first glimpse at Twin Sister’s debut full length, In Heaven set to drop September 27th on Domino Records. The Brooklyn based quintet first come off as a kind of dream/pop although they venture out of that classification in all directions. On certain tracks Andrea Estella’s lush, breath heavy vocals seem to melt the subtle and soft electronic layered instrumentation and on others it’s a more abrasive affair with driving synth and danceable beats.

They’ve released two EP’s so far, re-issued by Domino Records. In November of 2008 we were introduced to the acoustic heavy subtle sounds of Vampires with Dreaming Kids. It wasn’t for another two years, March of 2010, that we heard the more developed Color Your Life. You can stream these EP’s in their entirety and download them both over at their bandcamp page.

Here’s the standouts

Off 2008’s Vampires with Dreaming Kids

Twin Sister – I Want A House

Twin Sister – Ginger

Off 2010’s Color Your Life

Twin Sister – Lady Daydream

Twin Sister – All Around and Away We Go
