The Hood Internet – Trillwave vol. 2

We love indie music (whatever that means) and especially artists like Toro y Moi, Sufjan Stevens, Cults and Bibio just to name a few but when they are mashed up with rap artists like Das Racist, M.I.A and Drake we love em even more in a totally new, late night dance party kind of way.  The Hood Internet have been making these types of wonderful mixes of indie artists and hip hop for quite sometime now and giving them all away for free so if you haven’t checked them out go download some older mixtapes and random tracks right now here. On the most recent mixtape Trillwave Vol. 2 they teamed up with the blog Mishka to bring us a downloadable Soundcloud of a single track album that focuses more on the chillwave side of things much like the first Trillwave did. The Bilinda Butchers – New Single and Mixtapes

The Bilinda Butchers are multi instrumentalist, dream/pop duo Michael and Adam from San Francisco. They take their name from the female guitarist/vocalist for My Bloody Valentine. Their fantastic first EP, Regret, Love, Guilt, Dreams has been a steady player since its digital release june 21 via their bandcamp page. This new single comes to us through the excellent digital singles label beko DSL out of Paris, France.

With these two new tracks of pure Bilinda bliss the Butchers draw on sentimental nostalgia, weaving atmospheric dreamscapes in and out of hushed harmonies. It’s seductive bedroom pop that tends to draw on those lingering memories left over from warm summer days you thought you forgot about.

Here’s a download of the A side, Half Open off the new single. You can download the whole thing for free here.

Black Fabio

Black Fabio is MC Oreo Jones and DJ/Producer Action Jackson making a collaboration of somewhat not really epic at all proportions. Unless you are from the midwest area you are probably unfamiliar with either one of these two artists. Which makes this even better. Two random guys (with awesome names) get together to make a fun, lighthearted mixtape perfect for a chill, hilarious, windows down, summertime drive listen (which fits Action Jackson‘s label name Rad Summer quite nicely actually). I like the mixtape as a whole but some standouts are the opener track then the Fabio samples track and the Joy Division cover track but really the Reggie Miller track is the take home favorite combining Aphex Twin and 3-6 Mafia/ 8ball MJG samples with swag out the ass. Either way the mixtape is free and you can download via the player below.

Rapping With Paul White

Yes, I am writing another post about Paul White/One-Handed Music/et. al. Criminally misunderestimated by the blogosphere these guys are; thus I’m on a mission of sorts to promote them when/wherever I can.

This promo for White’s latest album (of the same name, which is due Aug. 21.), is a proper mixtape full of odds and ends: cuts from the new album, unreleased tracks and remixes by Mr. White, along with the odd a cappella.

Tracklist:

A New Way
Get Down RMX* -Nas
One Of Life’s Pleasures RMX* featuring Danny Brown

White sleeps with his sampler.

If you like your left-field hip-hop way out in left-field, then you need this guy in your life. What Dilla was to soul or Madlib is to jazz, White is to prog rock.

Also, don’t forget to grab White’s excellent debut, The Strange Dreams of…, he’s giving it away now.

Cassettes Won’t Listen – Evinspacey and Free Mixtapes

I really like the name of this album and that is the only reason I am posting about it. I might even start going by the pseudonym EvanSpacey instead of EvanderHologram. Just kidding I really like Cassettes Won’t Listen and this album. Evinspacey is an electronic tour de force with poppy, catchy, synth melodies and sometimes dupstepish basslines accompanied by some dreamy vocals at times. It was originally named just Kevin Spacey (who’s birthday was oddly enough yesterday..) but Mr. famous actor actually ordered a cease and desist for the album title and so it just got the K knocked off.

Jason Drake is just one of the many one man electronic acts these days but he isn’t just some one trick pony, he has his own record label/artist collective Daylight Curfew, he helped start and market the Def Jux label, he has many side projects including the dope electronic instrumental DFalt and he has done countless remixes for multitudes of artists. CWL has tons of other stuff out there (see below) but this is his third full studio album and maybe his best yet. Check it out and go wish Mr. Spacey a happy belated.

Here are a few free downloads for ya from the new album, a nice remix, plus some rad free mixtapes:

Cassettes Won’t Listen – Perfect Day

Cassettes Won’t Listen – The Echoes

Daft Punk – Derezzed (Cassettes Won’t Listen Remix)

I think the album is on sale over at iTunes right now for $7.99 and if you get it there you get three extra free tracks, one of which is below.

If you want a free mixtape CWL 101 just click the pic!

And here is a pretty sweet album for hip-hop heads and Animal Collective fans where Cannibal Ox is mashed nicely with Merriweather Post Pavilion.

Starfucker – Mixtape

So we here at DECIBELity have had some debate about posting about Starfucker (Aka STRFKR) mostly due to the name and a few other nonsensical reasons, but alas this day has ended with the discovery of this remix mixtape. I found it randomly recently looking for some free mixtapes and was amazed when I came across it because it reminded me of the old Ratatat remix albums that came out a few years back. And just like those mixtapes it has some pretty familiar jams on it but they are reworked so well that they seem all fresh again. I dont really know who Skeletron is besides that he probably helped make this thing. Listen, judge and download below.

Ratatat – Remixes Vol. 1

Ratatat – Remixes Vol. 2

This post should really be more just about Starfucker‘s other music though instead of this remix album, because they have an incredible poppy catchy electronic sound that if you don’t know about you better get on after the jump. The quartet fronted by Joshua Hodges hails from Portlandia and have been making music since 2007 together. They tried to change their name to PYRAMID then Pyramidd but then they ended up just sticking with Starfucker “..just to see how far we could get with a stupid name like that..”.

Even with all the attention that has been paid to their name, they couldn’t pull it off without having amazingly great music to back it up. With strong production, synthed-out electronic dancey sounds, infectious melodies and dreamy, emotional vocals its hard not to like these guys. Supposedly the live show is really what sells it all too, with crazy colorful almost drag/old school hip hop outfits, constantly swapping instruments and a very insane energy. All three studio albums are pretty enjoyable throughout even without the live show though. The self titled (STRFKR) LP came out back in 2008 and Jupiter in 2009, Reptilians came out earlier this year back in March.

Here are a few freebies

From Reptilians:
