DecibelCast Vol. 14 “Wandering”

This latest DecibelCast is a mix of somewhat new material that has assisted me on my summer travelings across the country. From Vermont to Seattle and up to Stanwood, WA for a 6-week job at a glass school on a 15,000-acre tree farm; over to Montana for a wedding and a 3 day excursion into Glacier National Park; back to the east coast to North Carolina; and then on down to St. Pete, FL.

Another few weeks in NC and I’ll be on my way back to the North East Kingdom and a private glass studio in Greensboro, VT.

I’ve been fairly non-existent in the blogosphere for most of my trip and this mix may reflect that. It’s been in the works since I left Vermont almost 3 months ago. Whether you’re on the road or hunkered down allow this mix to help you wander through mental or physical space. Enjoy and safe travels.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – Push The Sky Away

The Legendary and prolific Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are set to release their 15th studio album, Push The Sky Away, Feb.18th (19th stateside) via their own Bad Seed Ltd. imprint. Recorded in a 19th century French mansion and produced by long time collaborator Nick Luanay who’s work is present on albums by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire and Kate Bush just to name a few.

The press release promises sounds whose origins are difficult to discern, as well as a “clarity and sweet strangeness that’s built upon the refusal to accept limitations.”

Cave writes “Well, if I were to use that threadbare metaphor of albums being like children, then Push The Sky Away is the ghost-baby in the incubator and Warren’s loops are its tiny, trembling heart-beat.”

To celebrate the record they have scheduled four release parties. Each event will include a live performance with backing strings and choir along with a short film about the making of the record by filmmakers Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard. London, Paris and Berlin have already happened but the Los Angeles release party will be held on Feb. 21st at the Fonda theatre and will be broadcast live via  Rockfeedback and can be viewed at  Rockfeedback’s YouTube channel.

Below are two videos from the new record followed by an intense and kind of hilarious album trailer. Pre order the album here and make sure to scope the tour and jump on tickets as they are selling out fast. Stream Push The Sky Away in its entirety over at NPR first listen until the release date.
