SUUNS – Images Du Futur

The intense, four piece, drone/rock outfit SUUNS hailing from Montreal have completed their sophomore LP Images Du Futur. It’s expected March 5th on Secretly Canadian. Stream the whole thing up until its release via spinner and pre-order the record here.

Here’s what the band had to say about Edie’s Dream…“At first, ‘Edie’s Dream’ started as a kind of nightmare, with burial themes and the cold and lonely woods. But gradually, it melted into a kind of bittersweet daydream. Edie is stunning, she is family to the band and at only 13, she carries herself with the poise and confidence of someone who understands the music, understands the cold, understands dreaming and its different layers.”

Porcelain Raft – “Strange Weekend”

London based dream/pop shoegazer Mauro Remiddi is Porcelain Raft. Put Me To Sleep is the first single off his long awaited, forthcoming, debut album Strange Weekend due Jan. 24th via Secretly Canadian.

Hazy waves of electronic ambiance, sharp yet subtle beat structures, and soft shimmering instrumentation provide foundation for his hushed, overcast harmonies. He does well with his form of bedroom/pop. So well actually that he’ll be embarking upon a US/European tour in support of M83 (one of our ’11 favorites) for the first few months of 2012. Sample the first single and watch the accompanying video along with some older demo’s and a remix. Also watch the short teaser video for the new album below.

Windsor For the Derby

Windsor For the Derby was formed in 1994 in Austin Texas. Its core members Jason McNeeley and Daniel Matz have carried the band a long way throughout its evolution. A handful of EPs and 9 albums later their latest release Against Love which came out last summer on Secretly Canadian feels more like a culmination of that journey rather than a new direction or next step.

Labeled as post/rock Windsor for the Derby is somewhat of an experimental, psych mutated country/folk band. Within this album we find indie/folk tinged gems interspersed between instrumental ambient soundscapes. Where there are vocals they’re delicate and blend seamlessly into the background without being lost. The guitars are mostly acoustic and although subtle carry weight. This album along with their entire catalogue is absolutely worth digging through. Here’s a starting point.

Off the 2010 release Against love here’s a video and download for Queen of the Sun and an mp3 stream of Our Love’s a Calamity

Painted Palms – Debut EP

Painted Palms  is the result of cousins Reese Donohue and Christopher Prudhomme’s long musical relationship growing up together in Louisiana sharing ideas and sound experiments. The debut EP Canopy was released digitally April 26th and is set to hit shelves June 21st on Secretly Canadian Records.

They play something in the form of electronic psych indie/pop with just the two of them in the studio and morphing into a 5-piece on stage. Their sound is rich in atmospheric layering and driving electronic beats. With so many electronic indie bands bursting forth they bring something surprisingly and refreshingly original.
