Youth Lagoon – Wondrous Bughouse

Trevor Powers AKA Youth Lagoon is ready with his new album Wondrous Bughousecoming to us March 5th via Fat Possum. After wearing out the grooves in his 2011 debut, Year in Hibernation, this album could not be in my hands soon enough.

EDIT: Trevor has just revealed another single off the new record over at the FatPossum soundcloud page, here’s the stream. It’s a beautiful multi layered track.

Youth Lagoon – “The Hunt”

Trevor Powers of Youth Lagoon performs a beautiful, stripped-down version of The Hunt for Deer Lodge in the wilderness of Boise, Idaho. The Hunt is off his 2011 album The Year of Hibernation via Fat Possum and was an easy pick for our end of the year “best of” list.

Youth Lagoon – “Montana” Video

Youth Lagoon is currently prepping the long awaited release of his debut LP, The Year of Hibernation, out September 27th via Fat Possum.  As a little treat he has bestowed upon us this beautiful, haunting video for Montana directed by Tyler T Williams.

This is easily my most anticipated release so far this year hence the two previous posts. Link to them here and here to grab a few mp3’s and learn some background info.

Youth Lagoon – “Montana”

I posted the first two singles off Youth Lagoon’s forthcoming record, The Year In Hibernation , last month and at the time things were kinda up in the air for the young artist. He wasn’t signed to a record label and had postponed the release indefinitely. Well It’s official, he has since signed to Fat Possum Records and is prepping his debut set to drop September 27th. Here’s a download for the lead track Montana. Up until now it’s only been on soundcloud. It’s a slow builder that begs introspection.

22 year old Trevor Powers is Youth Lagoon. Here’s a little inside look from Trevor on his music.

“For my whole life I’ve dealt with extreme anxiety. Not anxiety about passing a test or somewhat normal things, but weird.. bizarre things. Things that only I know. I sometimes feel like I’m literally being eaten up inside. So I started writing these songs. Not just songs about my anxiety, but about my past and my present. Songs about memories, and all those feelings that those bring. I know that if I can be honest about what is inside my mind, there will be others that will be able to relate to it.”

Youth Lagoon preps debut 10″

Youth Lagoon is one Boise Idaho based Trevor Powers. Over the past couple months he’s been treating us to samples off his forthcoming debut 10″ The Year of Hibernation. 8 ethereal, electronic indie/pop tracks that paint emotion in an effortless dreamscape, drawing us in to a rich, comforting nostalgia.

The Year of Hibernation was originally due july 5th on the small Juno Beach record label, but after these three gems had time to circulate Trevor has been approached by larger indie labels who will have the ability to distribute his record more effectively. Hopefully this won’t mean any delay and quite possibly it could mean we see this released sooner. Stay tuned for updates.

Here’s the tracks we’ve heard so far. July and Cannons can be downloaded by following the link on a name your own price basis.
